Curious:

What do the people in this group think about the book 'Outliers?'

I have not read it, but from what I understand it points to other environmental
events that play a major role in a persons success.

For instance: Working for a great manager at IBM and working for a manager at
the DOT. Take the same person and the same intelligence, drastically change their enviornment and you drastically change the out come associated with that persons success. This has lead me to consider making drastic changes in where I spend my time.

I love to read and give books along with cash to my kids every Christmas.

They know how much value I put into reading (productive material) so when I give them one or two books, they understand that there is value in the material.

Two books that I have given them that are not on your list are:
'The Secret' by Rhonda Bryne and 'Success is a Choice' by Rick Pitno

Great list! I have added Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn to my list. I memorized The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino twenty years ago and gave away 100's of copies. Time to revisit. This is the fourth time this month I have seen this book mentioned. Three I found inspiring last year are The 29% Solution by Ivan Misner, The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale and an annual must read The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.

Thank you for the Forum.

Thank you for all of your comments! I will be adding all your recommended books to a new list and post so readers can explore your recommendations! I know for me the greatest gift I can give someone is a book, the best gift I can give myself is to read a book that has been recommended to me!

I've read half the top 10 books on this list (#1, 2, 4, 8, 10 -- personally met Michael Gerber about 18 years ago) and I always seem to eat more than half the chocolate chip cookies in any batch my kids make. I'll have to check out the others on this list that I haven't read yet.

There are two books that have had a profound impact upon me: "What Happy Companies Know" by Dan Baker (and 2 others) and "How To Win Customers and Keep Them For Life" by Michael LeBoeuf--I think the latter should be the Bible for every business. I also really enjoyed "Nuts!" -- the story about Southwest Airlines. Thanks for posting this list.

2009 will be a great year!
